Dengue outbreak alert- What you need to know now.

 


The number of people affected by dengue is increasing drastically.


Bangladesh is facing a severe outbreak of mosquito-borne disease “Dengue”. A number of 8 people has died and almost two thousand people hospitalized with in the last 24 hours, according to a data from Directorate General of Health Services.

Up to this point in the year, dengue has caused the loss of a minimum of 975 lives, with nearly two hundred thousand reported cases, making this year as the deadliest since the initial recorded outbreak in 2000.

In order to stop dengue outbreak, we need to-

  • ·         Eliminate mosquito breeding sites by emptying containers.
  • ·         Use mosquito nets and repellent.
  • ·         Wear protective clothing.
  • ·         Install window and door screens.
  • ·         Organize community clean-up efforts.
  • ·         Advocate for government mosquito control measures.
  • ·         Promote public awareness.
  • ·         Seek early medical treatment for symptoms.

Symptoms of dengue fever:

  • ·         Nausea
  • ·         Vomiting
  • ·         Rash
  • ·         Aches and Pains (Eye Pain, typically behind the eyes, muscle, joint or bone pain.)

Symptoms typically last two to seven days. Most affected people tend to recover after about a week.

Symptoms of dengue can become severe within a few hours. Severe dengue is a medical emergency.
