Shakib Points Fingers at Tamim for Series Loss to Afghanistan.
Despite a challenging 2023, marked by three home bilateral
series losses and missing the chance to reach Asia Cup final, Shakib doesn't
perceive it as a bad year for Bangladesh. He attributes the series loss to
Afghanistan to a singular individual, not representative of the entire year's
performance.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of the Bangladesh ODI team,
criticized Tamim Iqbal, former Captain of Bangladesh Cricket Team, for the decision
of retiring during the Afghanistan series in July. He believes this sudden
decision unsettled the team, and they are still trying to recover from it.
In a recent interview with T-Sports on Wednesday, Shakib
strongly criticized Tamim, raising doubts about Tamim's dedication to the team.
"I will completely blame the captain for our series loss
against Afghanistan. I didn't see anywhere in the world, a captain after
playing the first game of a series coming in and emotionally saying I will not
play cricket anymore. I've seen something like this for the first time in my
life" Shakib told. "A responsible captain can never do something like this." he added.
Bangladesh won only one match in that series, which ended
with a 2-1 score line in favor of the opposing team.
